Movie Review: He's Just Not That Into You

Wow, where to begin, I beyond hated this movie. If I could think of a stronger word, that I wouldn't have to repent for, I'd use it.

It was one of those movies that got progressively worse until I just couldn't take anymore and walked out.

It followed a couple different story lines with pathetic psycho women and unintelligent slimy men.

The women whined the whole movie about trying to get a man, keep a man, to call or not to call a man. Please let me stab a pencil in my ear.

The men puffed up their chests and went around like no one mattered but them, please let me take a pencil to your chest.

The one story line that just through me off my kilter was a married man who met a beautiful woman in the super market. They kept justifying why it was okay to talk (for business reasons), then to be friends (and go swimming naked), and finally to sleep together.

I just couldn't fathom why the audience was laughing at this. It made me feel creepy for watching so I had to get out of there.

I have never had a place in my life for infidelity. Too many of my loved ones have been devastated by it. I just cannot comprehend how anyone can be so selfish.

When Big D and I were first married I was terrified of him cheating on me. I figured it was only a matter of time before he got tired of being married to me and find something better. I would have vivid nightmares of him sleeping around with other women, I'd wake up so hurt and angry. And yes, I will admit I did take it out on him.

He had to reassure me, probably every day, for the first three or four years of our marriage that he was in love with me and he would do every thing in his power to not put himself in a situation that could even be misconstrued. I have since quit having nightmares, and punishing him for them.

He is such a great husband, and knows that it is still such a huge concern of mine, that he, to this day, reassures me that I am still the one for him. I know I sound insecure and needy, I probably am, but it sure feels good to hear that after thirteen years, five babies, and fifty pounds he still loves me for me.

I've seen too much pain in my life due to selfishness that I am not going to view it as entertainment. It is sad that society seems to be accepting such things as infidelity as natural human tendencies. What happened to the sanctity of marriage?

I heard a talk show host say once that all men are cheaters because men are not built to be monogamous, that is crap!!! I think he's just giving himself and every other man in this world an excuse to be selfish inconsiderate pigs.

I think I've made my stand pretty clear on this topic. I hated this movie with a white hot intensity of a thousand suns. Now I will step off my soap box, Thank you!

Movie Review: Twilight

Where do I start? I feel bad for Stephanie Meyers, all that hard work she did on the book and that was the best the film makers could do. I was so looking forward to the passion that was suppose to come across. It peaked it's head a couple times but then it disappeared.

The most disturbing part was the graceful fluid movement that vampires are supposedly known for. In the movie they moved like giant clumsy cats and it just looked awkward. It looked like the characters were running in place and they just pushed fast forward. I don't know if the cinematographer just graduated from high school, but they definitely needed someone with a bit more experience.

I felt Kristen Stewart did okay as Bella's character and they didn't develop Edward's character at all.

I know it's hard to take a book that is loved by many and try to create an outcome that will appease the masses, but they seem to be getting something right with the Harry Potter movies.

Watching Carlisle turn Edward into a vampire was probably the most intimate and unsettling part of the entire show.

If Robert Pattinson would have kept his accent it would have added to his character and made him more eloquent.

I do have so good things to say about the movie, I liked Edward's driving after rescuing Bella from the hoodlums. I thought Edward was good looking. Ummm that's pretty much it.

Maybe I set myself up for the disappointment because I was looking forward to this movie too much. Maybe it's Stephanie Meyer's fault for writing a book that was just so good the film makers couldn't transpire everyone's expectations on to the big screen.

I think they could have solved a lot of problems if they would have just made the movie a bit longer to give themselves more room to develop the story and characters. Trust me the devoted fans would not have minded sitting in their seats for a bit longer.

Smallville

Lowell has my family hooked on Smallville. I don't know what my problem is but I never used to like Sci-Fi and now it's all I've been reading or watching.

I think it helps when I have the entire series to watch at my convienence. I have a hard time getting attached to a show if I have to wait a week or so to watch another episode.

I am a huge Tom Welling fan. Not only is he hot but I also think he's a good actor. Watching him from the first season to the seventh he's really come into his own. At first he was just kind of goofy on screen but he's developed into a talented actor.

And his smile Ooh la la he has the most beautiful smile. That is one thing I miss, he used to smile a lot in the first couple seasons and now he doesn't anymore, unless it's a fake half hearted one. I understand the story is getting a little darker and more serious but I think they should bring back his smile.

I've been very impressed with how private Welling is in real life. He doesn't do many interviews and he never talks about his personal life. I think that's great, hopefully it gives him and his wife a fighting chance as a couple in Hollywood. They already have a long marriage by Hollywood standards.

I heard that when you reach the level of fame that Welling's reached, he likes to surround himself with straight guys or lesbians because they don't "want" him, I can see that. It would get old everyone around you have a vision of what you're really like in and really only seeing what they want to see. I don't know how people handle having their lives under a microscope like that. I guess that's why we hear of so many celebs going off the deep end. I think I'm fine tucked into my little corner of the world and no one knowing my name.

I do hope they keep Smallville on TV. I've really enjoyed the escape from reality it allots me.

Book Review: Breaking Dawn

Stephanie Meyer's fourth book in her Twilight saga is "Breaking Dawn". Once again she does a fabulous job in pulling her reader into the story and holding their attention until the very last word.

She does leave the reader feeling sad that the saga is over. I want more! I know good stories have to come to an end, if they don't they turn into soap operas.

I love how Meyers was able to drag the reader into a supernatural world of vampires and werewolves and not inflict the intense sexual nature that most vampire stories portray.

Meyers makes me wish that such a realm in our world really existed. A realm where humans, vampires, and werewolves can co-exist and fall in love.

I don't know how Meyers did it, but I believe I am addicted to her writing. Next I will read her book "Host". It is suppose to be a sci-fi book for people who don't really like sci-fi books.

Book Review: Eragon & Eldest

I have never admitted to being a sci-fi fan. I've been really wanting a good book to read lately. Something I can sink my teeth into and will transport me into the book. I love getting lost in a book. I love when all I can do is think about the book when I'm not reading it.

I like to study the writing styles of those kind of books and try to figure out what they do different from other writer who just can't keep my attention.

My brother, Lowell, is a huge fan of the Eragon series. He's read the books multiple times and has been waiting, rather impatiently, for the last book to come out.

I had started a different book and just couldn't get into it. So I asked Lowell if I could borrow his Eragon book just to see what all the fuss was about. Frankly I had seen the movie and I was not impressed, but books are always better than movies so it was worth a try.

I couldn't put it down. For once when I was doing my chores all I wanted to do was get back to reading, I'm not a fast reader so I couldn't read it all in one sitting. Most of the time it's the other way around; I will think about how I need to be doing my chores as I'm sitting on my tuckus reading.

Christopher Paolini has a special talent for just the right mixture of detail, character development and story line to keep the reader mesmerized. He made it so my mind was so engrossed in the story that I did not have time to wonder what was going to happen next so every thing was a surprise.

I finished Eragon in just a couple days and couldn't get to Eldest fast enough. Most sequels are a big disappointment to me. They don't seem to be able to keep the pace with the first one. It's like the author thinks that the success of the first book will carry the second and it hardly ever does.

Eldest didn't have that problem. It was equally as good with Paolini's mixture. I really enjoyed how he developed Roran's character in this book. I think I am just as excited to find out what happens to him in book three as I am Eragon.

Paolini helps the reader fall in love with all the characters. I rooted for the villagers as they were trudging through their dilemma. My heart broke when friends would die or betray. I know books have to have conflict to survive scrutiny but one can't help but feel the pang of sadness when something doesn't go in Eragon, or Roran's favor.

Paonlini did need gruesome violence, filthy language or raunchy sex scenes to tell his story. He used his intelligent way with words to help you relax and enjoy the journey.

I think secretly most readers want to find out someday that they are truly someone special. That they have some secret lineage or ability that can be used to make this world more beautiful or peaceful. We all want to be someones hero.

Paolini made it easy to root for his characters. He is a very talented author and I am anticipating reading his third book.

This series and this author should not be judged by the movie they made. Personally I think Paolini should sue the makers of the movie for crucifying his beautiful story.

I know movie's can't put everything from the book into their story on screen. It would make the movie way too long. However, the movie left out very important details that were needed in telling the story. The most important thing the movie left out was the character development. Huge Mistake.

All in all I am glad I gave the books a chance to stand on their own. I have been well rewarded for it. I would recommend this book to anyone who could read.
